Over $500K Worth Of Jewelry Stolen In #NYC Smash-And-Grab

Short Amount Of Time For Jewelry Worthy Of A Half A Million Dollars

According to the police, it took three crooks armed with a sledgehammer only sixty seconds to smash their way into a high-end jewelry store on Park Avenue and make off with more than half a million dollars worth of sparkling merchandise early on Saturday morning.

Surveillance footage from Cellini Jewelers at 430 Park Avenue between East 55th and 56th Streets shows that one of the three suspects used a sledgehammer to break not one, but two glass doors at the entrance of the Midtown shop just after 3:30 am on Saturday, when the store was closed and no one was inside.

The video shows that after being broken with the sledgehammer, all it took to break the first glass door was a few kicks. The second glass door broke even faster when one of the smash-and-grab suspects pushed it with his whole body and almost fell when it fell forward.

The three thieves wore hoodies, masks, and gloves so they wouldn't leave fingerprints. Surveillance footage shows them moving very quickly through the high-end store, making a beeline for certain display cases and smashing them open, then taking all the high-end jewelry that was locked inside.

The NYPD released the surveillance video late Saturday night. The timecode on the video shows that the thieves were in and out of the store with the stolen goods in exactly one minute. Police say that the stolen jewelry was worth more than $500,000.

But police say they are still making a full list of all the stolen items, so this number could go up even more.
