The set was designed by the director of Gerrard, a centuries-old jewelry firm, and features 164 brilliant-cut diamondsand 14 marquise diamonds, altogether weighing nearly 50 carats. The stones are mounted in a platinumnecklace with a claw set, accented by five cultured pearls in a fringe-drop design. The earrings are similarly fashioned, with 30 diamonds split between the pair, alongside six marquise diamonds and two matching cultured pearls.

The set was initially commissioned by Princess Diana in 1997, and she wore it to a performance of Swan Lake at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The necklace quickly became one of her most recognizable pieces, with images of her wearing it appearing on magazine covers and style mood boards for over a decade.

The set was meant to be a gift from Dodi Fayed, who passed away in the same car accident that took the life of Princess Diana in 1997. Two years after their deaths, Diana’s family authorized the jeweler to sell the Swan Lake Suite, and it was eventually sold to its current owner, a prominent family in Ukraine.

The family has held the set in their possession for over a decade, but the devastation of the war in Ukraine impacted their business, leading them to return the set to Guernsey’s for new potential buyers. A portion of the proceeds from the sale will be used to help re-build Ukraine, according to the auctioneer’s website.

The Crown Jeweler, who designed the set, contacted Guernsey’s auction house in 1999, and the set was later consigned to the New York City firm. The listing was covered by mainstream press from NBC’s Today Show to The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Interested buyers can request a private viewing of the Swan Lake Suite from now until June 27 by contacting Guernsey’s directly. The set will also be exhibited prior to auction at the prestigious Pierre Hotel in New York City from June 24 through 26 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on June 27 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Online bidding for the set will be available via LiveAuctioneers.com on June 27.

The auction is expected to draw a significant amount of interest from collectors and Princess Diana enthusiasts around the world. The Swan Lake Suite represents not only a stunning piece of jewelry but also a piece of history and a reminder of the enduring legacy of the beloved princess.
