The glitz and glamour of this year's Met Gala were taken up a notch when Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt made a stunning appearance in a Prabal Gurung dress adorned with swathes of pearls and a singular fingerless glovelette.

This unique glovelette, evocative of Karl Lagerfeld's iconic style, was studded with pearls and bore an OH V monogram with a stallion head, encircled by an onyxdragonfly, imago butterflies, and a Kaputt crystal. The OH V monogram, which has become a signature house aesthetic for Outhouse Jewelry, was a standout feature in Alia Bhatt's ensemble, paying homage to the brand's founders, the Grewal sisters: Kaabia and Sasha.

The OH V monogram isn't just a design; it symbolizes transformation and a departure from traditional femininity. This distinctive emblem was adopted five years into the brand's inception, forever marking that milestone in their journey. "Our pieces are inspired by our travels," says Kaabia Grewal, 37, co-founder of Outhouse. Even when "they’re bridal, they can still be very contemporary."

Outhouse Jewelry has steadily gained international recognition and appeal. "You would never take a look at their collection and peg it as just an Indian jewelry brand,"remarked Archana Thani, a jewelry curator and consultant, as well as the former managing editor of Vogue India.

Celebrities have also fallen in lovewith Outhouse's creations, with red-carpet appearances by Megan Thee Stallion and Kourtney Kardashian in recent years. Beyoncé, Halle Bailey, Cardi B, Kim Kardashian, Olivia Rodrigo, and Joey King are among the brand's enthusiastic fans.

Kaabia Grewal believes that Outhouse's jewelry is not limited to weddings and can complement everyday attire. To infuse a touch of Indian bridal tradition into Alia Bhatt's Met Gala look, the customary hand-strung jasmines were reimagined as pearls, accented with edgy silverspikes, thanks to stylist Anaita Adajania Shroff. Praachi Raniwala commented, a freelance fashion and lifestyle journalist:

While Outhouse’s jewelry and bags are made in India using Indian crafting techniques, their designs have always been global. I have seen images of their wedding-focused collections being worn by many brides who are of non-Indian origin.- Praachi Raniwala

The Grewal sisters, who grew up in Ludhiana, Punjab, India, were influenced by the city's rich tradition of women adorning elaborate jewelry and learning the art of curating and collecting from their mother. The royal history of Patiala further inspired their dark romance collection, featuring traditional structural silhouettes and glistening crystals.

Motifs are at the heart of their designs, stemming from various sources of inspiration, whether it be emotional or something as simple as a flower. The recently launched holiday collection aimed to capture the sense of freedom experienced during vacations.

After pursuing degrees in industrial design and fine jewelry at prestigious institutions, Kaabia Grewal and Sasha Grewal ventured to New York and London to gain experience with renowned jewelry designers, setting the stage for their joint venture. In 2011, Outhouse was born, and their debut at Lakmé Fashion Week in Delhi marked a pivotal moment in their journey, propelling them into the limelight.

Outhouse was one of the early adopters of Instagram as a strategic marketing tool, leveraging the platform to attract a younger, fashion-forward audience. They conducted trend studies to ensure their designs resonated with a broader audience and maintained a strong focus on craftsmanship.

Over time, Outhouse's popularity grew, and the brand is set to open its largest store to date in Hyderabad, India. Their edge and universal appeal have made them a favorite among fashion enthusiasts and celebrities alike.

In 2015, Outhouse expanded into jewel-encrusted bags, inspired by dance and childhood memories. Last year, they tapped into Y2K nostalgia with the Furbie bag collection, a shimmering tribute to Italian nightlife. The bags, adorned with over 2,000 champagne-tinted rhinestones, pulsated with rhythm and glamour.

Sasha Grewal expressed her excitement, saying:

I really knew it’s going to kill it. The Furbie was a great product already - it just needed some more iconism.- Sasha Grewal

Outhouse Jewelry continues to blend tradition and innovation, crafting pieces that transcend cultural boundaries and redefine the jewelry landscape. With Alia Bhatt's recent Met Gala appearance, the world can't help but fall in love with the unique and striking designs created by these talented sisters.
