The vibrant stone is the largest and most valuable Bulgari diamond ever to be auctioned, and it is projected to fetch more than $25 million when it is remounted onto a ring.
In the 1970s, the Bulgari Laguna Blu Diamond was set in a ring. The exceptional stone makes a big first impression with its vivid color saturation in a vibrant oceanic blue.
Blue stones of any size or shape are among the most valuable colored diamonds. Fewer than ten Fancy Vivid Blue diamonds weighing more than ten carats have been auctioned off in the last few decades, making the Laguna Blu Diamond a natural wonder.
Chopra Jonas' necklace is a tribute to Rome; interwoven diamonds set in platinumare connected to the Laguna Blu Diamond in a style that echoes the Bay Laurel wreaths used by Eternal City emperors in a way that captivates in the light. Olivier Wagner, head of jewelry at Sotheby's Geneva said:
It’s been such a privilege to see Priyanka Chopra Jonas wear this magnificent and bespoke Bulgari creation featuring the truly exceptional Laguna Blu Diamond on such a stellar occasion.- Olivier Wagner
According to Bulgari's jewelry creative director Lucia Silvestri, the platinum necklace was designed "to gently exalt and frame" the beauty of both the diamond and the actress.
Sotheby's received the necklace from the same European private collector who commissioned the blue diamond to be placed as a ring in 1970. The '70s saw the birth of Bulgari's daring color selections, which were eventually adopted by adored Hollywood actresses ranging from Sophia Loren to Elizabeth Taylor.
The LVMH-backed Roman jeweler, on the other hand, has been around for a long time; it was founded in 1884 and is now known for its luxury items ranging from exquisite jewelry to high-end timepieces.
The Bulgari Laguna Blu diamond will be on display at the Mandarin Oriental in Geneva beginning May 12, ahead of its sale during Sotheby's Luxury Week auctions beginning May 16 at 2 p.m. CEST.
